Dirk Kuyt will leave Feyenoord for a new adventure at Liverpool (for 18M euro). While he was not in that good form recently,
he still is one of the main powers of the team. Along with Salomon Kalou, who left the club for Chelsea FC during the summer break,
he was the complete attacking line. Also, wing midfielder/striker Romeo Castelen is injured for this match-up, so coach Erwin Koeman
has to worry about his offense here. And not only here, probably for the rest of the season. Koeman said already something like that he
can't be blamed for poor results, as the squad simply lacks quality.
Now that's a promising start of the season! After a good friendly result vs
M'boro (2-0 win) the club lost to Chelsea (0-1) and Reading (1-2).
Groningen had two important draws vs Porto (2-2) and Aston Villa (2-2). So far
so good, as the main power of Groningen lies in their home advantages. Last year they were 13-3-1 at home, and they only lost in this stadium
during a cup game vs Ajax. With the same coach, same fans, same atmosphere and almost the same squad (only Gijs Luirink left to AZ Alkmaar,
while Luis Suarez (Nacional Montevideo), Njazi Kuqi (Birmingham City), Goran Lovré (RSC Anderlecht) and Ondrej Svejdik (Mlada Boleslav) joined the team)
I believe they can surprise again at home! I have a strong feeling it might end in a draw. Like last year (1-1 in Groningen),
this might suit both teams and not one of them would top or drop in the table, all options remain open. FC Groningen can get a result here,
but it will be hard to get the straight win, as the Feyenoord defense does not look so poor as their offense.. logical result; 0-0 or 1-1 draw.
